Neath Academy Trials Saturday 6th June 2009
Neath Football Club held trials for its academy today at a rain soaked Cwrt Herbert and were delighted with the turnout of over 100 players at age groups 12,14 and 16, from the local area.
We would like to thank the players and their parents who attended and for the local clubs who sent their players along to the trial. The response was tremendous and this is the first step for the club to build long lasting community links with our Junior clubs in the area, as we attempt to nurture local players through the Academy system into ultimately representing Neath in the senior sector.
We offer our congratulations to the players for the high standards they showed and the enthusiasm to which they applied themselves.
It was a pleasure for Neath Football Club to meet so many players and parents from local clubs and current Club Captain Andy Hill refereed the U12 trial and commented, ‘ the kids really enjoyed and gave 100 % - I was really impressed’. Young players, Steve Hubbuck and Rob Spendiff reffed the other two games. The trials were overseen by Academy Directors Darren Jones and Mickey Evans and assisted by First Team Management Staff- Andy Dyer, Ray Pennock, Simon Dyer, Leigh David and Tony Melding, along with First Team player Carl Shaw and Develkopment Team Manager David d’Auria.
The coaches of the Academy sides were involved with the selection process- Gary Phillips for the 16’s, David Burrows for the 14’s and Simon Midwinter for the 12’s.
It was a very positive day and we are looking forward to working with the players and their respective in the future. Once again we would like to thank the parents for bringing them along to the trial.
